The teachings are given in Tibetan by a monk who is a distinguished graduate of SeraJe Monastic University and expertly translated into english by Losang our highly knowledgeable and experienced Tibetan translator.
Buddhist practice focusses on the perfection of generosity – one of six primary virtues – so we have structured The Centre to promote this virtue. There is no charge for the teachings and they are open to the public.
The general programme is as follows:
SUNDAYS, 10am to 11.00am
-
Teaching: Sunday classes start with chanting of prayers and mantras, then Venerable Geshe Jampa Tenzin gives a teaching on Lam Rim- the stages on the path to enlightenment. The teaching lasts until about 11am. Afterwards there is some opportunity for us to ask some questions . Everyone is welcome to stay for a cup of tea and a chat afterwards.
MONDAYS, 7.30pm to 9.00pm
-
TEACHING. 2011 has seen a presentation of Tenets – a standard part of every monk’s education which presents the salient aspects of both classical Indian non-Buddhist and Buddhist schools of thought. This can be quite a technical topic but there are opportunites for questions and discussion.
THURSDAYS, 7.30–9.00pm
- TEACHING Thursdays are alternatively Mind and Awareness ( lo.rig) -about mind and sensory consciousness, and Mind Training ( lojong) – the development of a sense of universal altruism and responsiblity. Once again there is an opportunity for questions and some discussion on the topics.
