The Dhargyey Buddhist Centre in Dunedin is a charitable incorporated society founded in 1984 for the study and practise of Buddhism under the guidance of the senior Tibetan Lama, Gen Rinpoche- the venerable Geshe Ngawang Dhargyey. To our great sadness he passed away in August 1995. A commemorative stupa was built in his memory under the guidance of Venerable Thupten Rinpoche. The Portobello Peace Stupa was consecrated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in September 1996. If you would like to view our historical site for some background and history please follow this link www.dbc.dharmakara.net.
In April 2016 the Dunedin Dhargyey Centre welcomed the venerable Geshe Lobsang Dhonyoe as our new Resident Teacher and we invite everyone in Dunedin to come to his very warm teachings with great insight into the roots of spiritual practice for all people. If you are outside Dunedin you can find audio recordings of our teachings loaded on www.archive.org.
If you live outside our four main centres of Dunedin, Whangarei, Christchurch and Tauranga and would like to really experience Buddhism we welcome invitations for our Lamas to teach anywhere in New Zealand. There are sub-branches of our Dhargyey Buddhist Centre in Whakatane, Morrinsville and Takaka, which you can find the contacts for elsewhere on this site.
